Craig Crossing Park & Mill Creek Streamway, Lenexa, KS Spring 2020
Craig Crossing Park has historical significance locally, as the site dates back to the early days of railroads. The park itself comprises less than 17 acres and includes a small shallow pond which was created when a nearby stream channel was changed.
The park is situated along the Mill Creek Streamway and is one of 7 access points to the 17 mile long Gary Haller Trail, so it can be a busy place at times. The area is not only popular with people but with birds and wildlife too.
DISCLOSURE: Contains lots of Heron photos.

The males abdomen is light, powdery blue whereas the females are yellow and black. Unlike some other species where males guard egg-laying females, Widow Skimmer males leave the female by herself, "widowing" her as she lays her eggs just under the surface of the water.
